The Power of One: Serving America's Heroes

September 2026

Sisters and Brothers,

September is here, and with it comes another opportunity to put The Power of One into action. Over the past few months, I have watched our members step forward, take responsibility, lend a hand, and continue the work of our Auxiliary. Sometimes we look at everything that needs to be accomplished and wonder what dif-ference one person can really make. The answer is simple: more than we may ever know.

I recently had the opportunity to see the completed Program Book for this year, and I want to recognize our Program Chairmen. Each took a program, put their thoughts and knowledge to paper, and gave that program a voice. Together, those individual efforts created something that will help guide our Department throughout the year. That is The Power of One in action—one person accepting a responsibility, doing their part, and contributing to something much larger than themselves.

Sooner Stand Down Needs Our Help

We recently learned that a Mini Sooner Stand Down will take place on September 18. The Department of Veterans Affairs is requesting move-in kits for newly housed veterans who were previously homeless. A basic necessities kit costs approximately $140, while a full kit costs approximately $270. Individuals and Auxiliaries do not have to sponsor an entire kit; donations of any amount can make a difference. Because the event is approaching quickly, assistance is needed as soon as possible. Please contact our Veterans & Family Sup-port Chairman, Sandy Bassett, for donation information.

Our National President's theme, "Serving America's Heroes," reminds us exactly why opportunities like this matter. Whether it is one Auxiliary providing a kit, one member making a donation, or several people combin-ing what they can give, we are putting those words into action. The Power of One becomes even greater when each of us uses it in Serving America's Heroes.

Dates to Remember

September 18, 2026 – Mini Sooner Stand Down

October 9–11, 2026 – Fall Festival

October 22–25, 2026 – Southern Conference, Mobile, Alabama

November 21–23, 2026 – National President Donna Mills' Visit to Oklahoma

February 2–7, 2027 – National Mid-Year Conference

February 19–21, 2027 – VFW/VFW Auxiliary Midwinter Conference

As we move into September, remember that service does not always require a grand gesture. Sometimes it is one phone call, one donation, one hour volunteered, or one person willing to say, "I can help." Never under-estimate what can begin with that simple decision.

To everyone celebrating a birthday or anniversary this month, I hope September brings you much happiness. To those facing illness, hardship, or difficult days, know that your Auxiliary family is thinking of you and wish-ing you strength and better days ahead.

Never forget: You are the example of what one can do.

In Devoted Service,

Frank Matek
