The Power of One: Making a Difference Together

Sisters and Brothers,

October is here, and that means Fall Festival is right around the corner! I hope to see many of you October 9–11 as we come together for fellowship, fun, and, most importantly, service to our veterans and their families.

While you are there, be sure to visit Marie’s Liberty Bell Market. Proceeds will benefit our Hospital Program, so you can do a little shopping while supporting a great cause. And don’t make plans to leave too early Saturday evening—we will have a joint project fundraiser Bingo from 7:00–9:00 p.m to benefit the Quilts of Honor. Come join us, have some fun, support a great cause, and help us make it a success!

As we gather together, I want us to remember what “The Power of One” really means. It does not mean that one person has to do everything. It means that one person can make a differ-ence. One person can volunteer. One person can offer an idea. One person can lend a hand. One person can encourage another. When each of us chooses to be that one person, imagine what we can accomplish together.

That same spirit goes hand in hand with our National President’s theme, “Serving America’s Heroes.” Every act of service, no matter how small it may seem, contributes to something much greater than ourselves. To those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this month, I wish you much happiness, and to anyone facing illness or difficult times, I wish you strength, healing, and better days ahead.
