Last month, we reflected on ‘Compassionate Service’ – serving others with kindness, patience, and forgiveness. Carrying that thought one step further, “How can we intentionally bless others?”
I recently completed a short study on the power of Biblical blessings using the ‘Fruit of the Spirit’ as a guide:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)
Think of someone in your life who could use encouragement. Do they need Peace in a difficult situation? Patience during a season of waiting? Joy in the midst of sadness? Self-control when their world feels out of control? Our world today is filled with negative noise. People are starving for words that remind them they are seen, known, and valued. Praying blessings over someone, done as a reflection of God’s Love and Kindness, can settle deep into someone’s soul offering refuge when the world gets loud.
“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
Proverbs 16:24 (NIV)
Look for opportunities to pray a blessing over someone. Offer words of encouragement. And as you pray blessings over others, don’t be surprised if you begin noticing more of the blessings God has placed in your own life.
Heavenly Father,
Help us to see the needs of those around us and to pray for them with compassionate hearts. May Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control be evident in our lives. Show us how we can encourage others and be part of the blessings we ask You to provide. Amen
