Stand Down is a GO! - Your Donations are Needed!

We were previously notified that Stand Down would not be occurring this year, but it is, it’s just a little different set up that in years past..

What does this mean to the VFW and Auxiliary? Move-in kits are DESPERATELY NEEDED!! These kits provide essential ‘get started’ items to newly homed (previously homeless) Veterans and will be delivered to events occurring in both Comanche County (Lawton) and the OKC.

What do the kits include?

Essentials Kit

• Tableware (plates, bowls, cups, silverware)

• Kitchenware (pots, pans, cooking utensils, can opener, towels, dish soap)

• Trash cans (kitchen & bathroom) with bags

• Bedding (comforter, sheets, pillows & pillowcases)

• Bathroom Supplies (toilet paper, shower curtain & hooks, plunger, toilet brush, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, shampoo, body soap & hand soap)

• Kitchen & Bath Towels and washcloths

• Cleaning Supplies (broom & dustpan, mop & bucket, sponges, cleaning solution, paper towels)

• Laundry Supplies (hamper & detergent)

Full Kit

• Essentials Kit plus. . .

• Microwave

• Air Fryer

• Coffee Pot

• Stick Vacuum

How? Send donations to Department Treasurer Deborah Miner-Gonzales at 8841 N. Hope Terrace, Yukon, OK 73099 (please write V&FS in the check memo). Who can donate? Everyone! This is not an “Auxiliary thing” it’s an everyone thing (Auxiliaries, Posts, Individual Members, Friends, Family, Neighbors, Businesses, Employers (check to see if your employer has a Charitable Donation Program – Marshall & Stevens (my employer) gave us a great start with a sponsor-ing donation. The Oklahoma VFW Foundation may be used as a pass-through if a donor requires donations go to a 501 (c)3 – contact me for details. All donations in any amount are welcome and encouraged! For informational purposes, the cost of an Essentials Kit is approximately $140 while a Full Kit is approximately $270.

We will start with 20 Full Kits and supplement throughout the year as needed with available funds. Any funds not utilized for kits will be put to good use supporting additional Veteran, Family, & Community needs across the state throughout the year.
