Support That Reaches Far Beyond Eaton Rapids
One of the most important truths about the VFW National Home is this: a veteran or military family does not have to live on campus to receive help. While the Home’s 43 houses and on‑site programs provide life‑changing support for resident families, the National Home’s Veteran Resource Center (VRC) extends that same commitment nationwide. Veterans across the country often know help exists — but navigating benefits, programs, and next steps can feel overwhelming. The VRC bridges that gap by starting with the most powerful tool of all: listening. From the attached report: “Sometimes the hardest part of asking for help is simply knowing where to begin. The Veter-an Resource Center helps provide a place to begin.” Whether a veteran is struggling financially, confused about VA benefits, seeking em-ployment, or simply unsure where to start, the VRC offers guidance, advocacy, and follow‑up support that continues long after the first phone call. 800-424-8360
How the VRC Helps Veterans Anywhere in the Nation
The National Home’s Veteran Services team follows a clear, compassionate four‑step process: You reach out. They listen. They connect. They follow up. Veterans can receive help with VA benefits, employment resources, education opportunities, housing support, men-tal‑health referrals, financial guidance, and more. The attached report emphasizes: “You do not have to know exactly what kind of assis-tance you need… The first step is a conversation.” This outreach is available to any veteran or military family — not just those living on campus — making the VRC one of the most powerful tools Auxiliaries can promote. Sharing the VRC phone number, 800‑424‑8360, may be the single most impactful act of support an Auxiliary can offer. A flyer, a Facebook post, a meeting announcement, or a bulletin board reminder could be the moment a veteran finally reaches out for help.
Exciting Campus News from National Convention!
At National Convention, it was announced that the National VFW Auxiliary will be building a new home on campus! What a wonderful way for the Auxiliary to have a direct and lasting effect on veterans and their families. We also learned that Florida is building a home, too!
Auxiliary Promotion Matters — Report Your Activities!
Your promotions, outreach, and education efforts are essential to fulfilling this year’s Department goal of filling all 43 homes and expand-ing awareness of the National Home’s services. When Auxiliaries share the VRC number, highlight nationwide support, or educate mem-bers about available resources, those activities should be reported so your work can be recognized and counted toward Department awards.
Thank you Spiro Auxiliary 4884, for reporting their National Home Health and Happiness activities.
Remember to report your activities to me, too! No veteran should face life’s challenges alone. Together, we can continue to make a difference – ONE veteran, ONE family, ONE connection at a time. Through the Power of ONE, we can continue Serving America’s Heroes by promoting the VFW National Home.
