Compassionate Service

“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of

 compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience;” -- Colossians 3:12 (ESV)

Compassion is at the heart of what we do as Auxiliary members. We share a deep concern for our veterans and military service members. That concern goes beyond completing a task or fulfilling an obligation. It calls us to recognize the needs of others and respond with kindness, understanding, and love.

The greatest acts of service aren’t always found in meetings, fundraisers, or community events. More often, they’re found in simple gestures: calling a lonely veteran, sending a card to an ill member, or sitting quietly beside someone who is struggling.

Colossians 3:13 continues: “Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.”

Colossians reminds us that compassion and forgiveness are not simply admirable qualities; they are reflections of how God calls us to live. This idea is captured in the Latin phrase ‘Corum Deo,’ meaning “before the face of God.” It reminds us that every aspect of our lives is lived in God’s presence and under His loving guidance.

Forgiveness is compassion in its truest form, yet it is often the most difficult form to practice. As members pf the VFW Auxiliary, we often walk alongside those experiencing grief, illness, conflict, and loss. Compassionate service requires understanding, patience, and at times, forgiveness. Above all, it requires a willing heart.

Heavenly Father,

Help us to remember that we live each day in Your presence and that our

words and actions should reflect Your character. Teach us to show the same

mercy and compassion that You have so generously shown us.

As we serve our veterans, their families, and our communities, grant us

understanding, patience, and hearts willing to forgive. Help us become

instruments of Your comfort and peace, extending compassion without

hesitation. May all we do reflect Your love and honor Your glory as we

continue Serving America’s Heroes.
