Hello everyone and happy August! I hope you had a wonderful, patriotic July!

As we enter this new month, let us remember that every single day we prove we are “Serving America’s Heroes” through the “Power of One.” August offers several unique holidays to include in your auxiliary plans. Here are a few ways you can celebrate these important dates:

August 7: Purple Heart Day

  • Visit Local Tributes: Plan a trip to Tulsa’s Military Order of the Purple Heart Monument or Oklahoma City’s 45th Infantry Division Museum.

  • Educate Members: Teach a class on the history of the Purple Heart, the oldest military award in the United States.

August 10: Agent Orange Awareness Day

  • Light the Night: Encourage your auxiliary and local community to display an orange porch light to honor veterans who have fought the effects of this devastating herbicide.

  • Spread Awareness: Educate members on illnesses connected to exposure, and host a community remembrance run or walk.

August 14: National Navajo Code Talkers Day

  • Host a Movie Night: Organize a community dinner and stream a documentary about the heroes who used their native tongue to create an unbreakable code during WWII.

  • Connect with Youth: Visit a local classroom to discuss the impact of the code talkers; create a fun code-cracking worksheet for students to practice.

Please continue to create your “POP” signage for these events and share your ideas with others. I look forward to reading your monthly reports! If you need any assistance with your planning, please reach out.

Have a wonderful August!
