A Home for America's Heroes

Happy New (Auxiliary) Year!! I am so excited to be the Program Chairman for the VFW National Home which has returned as its own focused program. Over the next year we’ll be sharing a monthly series that highlights the services, history, and ways you can help this vital resource for veterans and their families.

As the Auxiliary’s first continuing program, the National Home deserves renewed attention so members, veterans, current members of the military, and the public know how to connect people in need with the support available.

Located in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, this former cattle ranch has 43 single-family homes and community facilities including a gym, library, playgrounds, etc. Today, veterans and their families committed to making changes in their lives can live there rent-free for four years while receiving professional case management services, on-site licensed childcare, life skills training, tutoring and other educational services, as well as recreational and community service opportunities.

There are many simple ways to support the Home: donate to the Health and Happiness fund, recruit new members, give a monetary gift from your Auxiliary or personally, become a Home Front Hero, buy a Tribute Brick, shop the Home’s Amazon wish list, or wear and promote National Home apparel.

To focus on promoting the Home, we are challenging every Auxiliary to stage imaginative events or produce creative activities that show what and where the Home is and who is eligible for their services. Winners in each Division will receive recognition and donations made in their name. See the new Department Program book for specific information about the awards.

And watch the Department newsletter for ideas on how to join us in spreading the word so we can fill all 43 houses and build toward more homes for America’s heroes. Through “The Power of One”, we can help ensure the VFW National Home continues “Serving America’s Heroes” for another 100 years.
